_MG_0032 Shermans Fox Squirrel

We toured a Citra Farm that has the best habitat I've found for Fox Squirrels.

The FWC fox squirrel study will end in April 2012. Hopefully, they will get enough data to determine the status of this huge squirrel. It not understood if they're disappearing or just not seen.

They prefer a pasture setting with pine trees and little understory. They are a great 10AM -2 pm photoshoot andare active during most of the day.

We found 12-14 Sherman's Fox Squirrels between 11:30- 1:00PM. Shooting from the pickup or slowly sneaking outside and holdin still gave us some great "discovery shots."

It helped to spot the areas that we can go the "camo" on to get the portraits! ... more later

Note: They are listed as "a species of special concern" not "threatened" pending the investigation.
